I am saying mostly when I get back to the main page. LOL But that does not mean I go into places that I was never able to smoke and use them. I am kind of careful about blowing vapor at people I have not explained them to also.

Kinda, I try to not let anyone see it. No real reason why, really. I guess I'm just too lazy to explain it to someone who may not care. Why bother with asking a restaurant manager if it's ok when you can just take a toot in the restroom if you need it bad enough? If it is a place where smoking is allowed, I don't think twice about vaping. If it is any kind of non smoking environment, I do it in secrecy.
I feel like no matter how you explain it, a non smoking stranger is going to be creeped out by you vaping next to them. I feel like people who vape in nonsmoking establishments openly like it just shouldn't be an issue or even worse the people who will do it with a "look at me" mentality, may just be the downfall of ecigs. Maybe I'm paranoid in thinking like this but with the possibility of the FDA cracking down on this in the future I just don't feel like making anyone angry or uncomfortable with it.
This thing caused me to quit smoking cigarettes. That's good enough for me. I don't feel like I should have any special rights with this that smokers do not. I'm just happy to be able to use it at all.

juan you have a good POV on the situation, most people i feel would be gung-ho on using it anytime, anyplace... even knowing someone might get upset because they don't know. We need to be considerate to keep these things alive.

Actually I've had quite the opposite reaction in public. If I'm waiting for my meal, inbetween courses or after I've finished...I take a hit or two...and someone or several someone's are leaning over to find out what it is..and then the convo ensues. By the end of it, I've got folks wanting to buy one or desperately wanting to get one for a loved one.
I've just now had my Elite out a couple of times since I've had it and so far the response has been overwhelming. I'm looking forward to the new Gemini2 as well!
My personal read is that we've been sooo friggin' brainwashed on how bad we are as people for being smokers that we transfer that guilt and shame to the ecig unnecessarily. I smoked for 38 yrs and I quit and vaping is actually helping me to heal my lungs and to regain my life. I don't blow vapor in folk's faces, but I don't hide what I'm doing either. I was a militant smoker and fought for my rights and I'm just as militant a vaper, although so far I've not been bashed or thrown out of anywhere, instead receiving high praise, curiosity and respect for making the switch.
If you vape...you ARE NOT smoking! Be proud that you've quit and help others take their lives back too!

I agree Wolf. Who cares what anybody thinks. They should ask if they are concerned, rather than throw a fit right away or call a manager. However rather than wait for the Gemini2, don't you think this new "510 killer" would be something you would be interested in a little more?

Do you people seriously think walking into a store where none of us have been able to smoke for years or a restaurant where most of us haven't been able to for the last few years and puffing on an ecig is going to gain us anything except animosity?
Part of the reason we were looked down upon as smokers was because we were addicted to the things. How many times did you hear, "can't you do anything without one of those in your hand?" Now we take up vaping, another thing we are addicted to and think we can waltz in anywhere and have it accepted. It's not going to happen. People are still going to be, "can't you run into the store for 5 minutes without that?" When you combine that with the fact that we do look like we're smoking it is going to piss people off. Once someone is pissed off you really aren't going to get very far convincing them that these things are in any way good. We may have quit smoking, but we also need to face the fact that we did replace one addiction with another, and realize that that is all a lot of people are going to see. Being confrontational about it isn't going to help them see it any differently.
And how many of you think these things would be good for kids? I work in a school. Should I (because I can, there are no laws and the school hasn't written a policy against it yet) walk the halls puffing on my e-cig? What kind of message about e-cigs would that send to everyone? Would I be educating everyone to the benefits of e-cigs or would I be creating another bit of ammunition for ASH and others to use against them?
The fact is we learned to do without our cigs in some circumstances. Is vaping so much more addictive that we cannot do the same with our e-cigs?

im glad i picked this poll, there are alot of strong opinions here and it is also an important aspect in the acceptance of e-cigs in public. just like everything else out there, people are afraid of what they don't know.

I'm very comfortable using my e-cig in public, but obviously I don't go around showing it off, even though the 'evidence' is not easy to hide because of the vapor clouds. My class this semester is in a room inside the Library, so when I take my break and want to vape, I just walk around the back of the library and pretend like I'm looking at the selection of books. One thing I do is wrap my hand around the e-cig and just pretend like I'm thinking about something.
Around my friends and family, who won't be so judgmental, I vape like a normal cig with no problems.
Of course, I do not vape around children.
FWIW, I've never had anyone give me problems about vaping. I don't think anyone should have problems as long as you're aware of your surroundings.

The "look at me" attitude towards vaping is exactly the reason why I can't take my ecig into my place of employment anymore. Two guys who thought it was cool to vape inside in front of other people got that taken away from all of us. Now if I want to vape at work, I have to go all the way out of the entire Institution to use my ecig. Thanks again to people who demand attention every second of their lives. This will be the downfall of ecigs. Luckily, I mostly vape on my way to and from work anyhow, but for those people who need more than that in a 10 hour time frame, I hope they don't get caught.

Penny and Juan - THANK YOU for doing a better job of saying the things I've been trying to say.
Since I started vaping I've been telling my fellow vapers not to vape anywhere they wouldn't smoke without asking first. The quickest way to get something banned is to walk around offending the oh-so-delicate sensibilities of the general public. The only way to separate vaping from smoking in public opinion is to be far more respectful and conscientious than smokers generally act.
We definitely don't deserve special treatment. We started smoking knowing it was bad for us and most of us continued smoking for years despite experiencing detrimental effects to our health and finances. As Penny said; we replaced one addiction with another. Granted it's a less unhealthy addiction, but still an addiction. It is a personal victory for us - not one we should expect anyone else to celebrate.
A lot of people look at us like crack addicts who now make due with pot. Let's be the most thoughtful pot heads we can possibly be.

very true one addiction for another but technically its the same thing were addicted to just different methods of getting that "high" i personal walked around walmart the other day with my better half vaping for about a hr and a half nobody said a word a few people double took but i didnt get kicked out or questioned (didnt blow it in anybodys face) i dont see a problem with it but i wouldn't walk into a hospital or school doing it there deff are limits but i think if nobody is going to notice let alone care vape away if questioned or giving dirty looks put it away no reason getting arrested or starting ww2 over it and it was said already people who dont smoke and/or closed minded people wont want to hear it were just addicts :p but a little respect can go a far way
