Maybe I'm using my cig too much, but I've noticed that my e-cig is causing my chest to be more congested like when I chain smoke on the weekends. This morning I coughed up a small bit of black sputum, which has me worried a bit. Sputum of that color is usually old blood in the lungs or a byproduct of smoke inhalation (smoke from a fire, not analogs).

Just FYI, I'm usually puffing on my Gemini all day, nearly non-stop. Going to cut down today and see what happens. I'm also still cheating, smoking less than a pack of annies a day.

When you use the e cig exclusively your lungs will be begin to heal themselves so you will go through a coughing period to remove all the old built up gunk. I read somewhere that pg can actually help that process along.
as for coughing when you are still smoking analogs? I am not a doctor or scientists so I can only tell you my experience:
analogs made me congested and stuffy nosed all of the time the last few years like having a slight cold all of the time. Also my voice changed and deepened badly I used to sing years ago and had a really good voice. That is one big reason for giving up the analogs for me I missed singing and the damn things changed my voice so much it was an embarrassment to do so. As soon as I got my Blu within 1 week the congestion was gone. At about the 5 week point I ran out of juice! and smoked a pack of analogs or two or more over the time I had to wait for the mail to arrive the congestion and coughing came right back. and my voice went bad again.
now I have juice when I do cheat and take a puff of an analog (fast regretted omg yuk) i will cough and sneeze and be all congested again for a bit.
conclusion: maybe your lungs are trying to heal themselves by removing the gunk from your system due to the drastic cut down on the analogs you have experienced

Excellent response, foxy! I was looking for what the body and lungs experience when making the switch. Thanks for the info!

Hey, I'm no expert but from what I do know being in paramedic school it could be due to your lungs healing. When you smoke reg cigs the heat and chemicals eat away at the cilia(tiny hairs that move contaminated Particles up and out of your airway) eventually it's starts eating away at your mucus producing epithelium cells that are then replaced by squamous cells which are more prone to cancer. When your lungs start healing and those effects start reversing I can see where your body might begin to start moving all the bad shit out of your airway Again which may be why your starting to cough more. I noticed myself start having a more productive cough also, IMO it's your body healing and expelling contaminates again. But like I said, I'm not a doctor so if it gets significanty worse and your having shortness of breath or any kind of chest pain definatly go see your doc or get checked out by ems.

I've been vaping for about a week now and still taking in 3-4 analogs a day. I have yet to cough up any mud but I haven't completely quit analogs yet so I imagine that's why.

I haven't stopped analogs either. I really need to, but, ironically, when it feels like I'm breathing better is when I want a cig the most. Maybe that's the mental part.

Paayup: I was a medic 7 years ago before working in IT, so I've forgotten most of the advanced stuff. But I can still do a perfect patient assessment! :D If the pay wasn't so bad, I would love to get back into it.

On the 3rd day of being analog free... I could run up the stairs and not be out of breath and hacking when I got to the top...

when u have the urge to smoke an analog, grab your ecig and puff on it.. that craving will go away..

PG is a wetting agent and is used in loads of inhalers (of the prescription sort). It has been shown to reduce the beating of cilia (the little hairs in your lungs); yet that was shown in naive ciliae and not smoker's ciliae.

I found references that PG, as it is hydroscopic (it attracts water) helps degoopify bronchial sputum. Hence, eviction of whatever nasties you have living in your lungs could be helped by PG.

I'm an asthmatic, and [insert disclaimer that this is by no means medical advice nor will I claim that I am an expert in things pulmonary], I have notice that I have fewer issues when I vape than when I don't. ~0~

Your typical smokers cough may indeed fade out and you may not cough nearly as much, but in some cases when you do actually cough it may be productive. When I was smoking analogs it was hated waking up in the morning I would be so congested and cough up a bunch of crap, since being on the elite I haven't had that problem at all, but everyonce in a while if I do cough, sometimes I cough up some dark phlegm. That's why I belive it is do to the lungs healing, I guess everyones different, and it depends on how long someones been smoking, I was only smoking for less than a year before I switched to the elite.
